March Updates from Creative Flagstaff
General Operating Support Grants Creative Flagstaff’s flagship grant program is now open for applications. This grant program supports nonprofits and fiscally sponsored groups who have missions dedicated to producing, presenting, teaching, or serving the arts, cultural equity, preservation, or awareness, and/or presenting science programming to the public. Last year, $305,000 was awarded to 31 Flagstaff nonprofits.
Applications are due Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
Funding for nonprofit organizations is available through the Art & Science Fund at Creative Flagstaff. The Art & Science Fund is made possible with funding from the City of Flagstaff BBB Revenues
Finalists for the 14th Annual Viola Awards have been announced Finalists for the 14th Annual Viola Awards were announced on Sunday, March 6, 2022. 41 finalists are recognized across 10 categories. The winners will be announced at the 14th Annual Viola Awards on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Flagstaff. Tickets will be available for purchase.
14th Annual Viola Awards Recipient Gifts Call for Entry
Creative Flagstaff invites local Northern Arizona artists to submit works of art that will be gifted to each award recipient during the award ceremony. Artists will receive compensation of $200 and recognition at the event. Artists (18 and older) may submit up to three works in the following mediums: painting, drawing, photography, glass art or sculpture. The submissions will be juried in a blind review process. All entries must be received by March 31, 2022. And all artwork will need to be delivered to Creative Flagstaff by April 20th in anticipation of the April 30th event.
New Additions to the Creative Flagstaff team Development Director April O’Meara April O’Meara has joined Creative Flagstaff as the organization’s first ever Development Director. As a 15-year veteran of the nonprofit world, April’s honored to have worked in executive leadership, marketing and fund development. She holds an M.A. in Applied Anthropology from Northern Arizona University. Her work has taken her across the world and close to home in marketing companies and social service agencies. Whenever time allows, April’s in her garden with a cup of tea nearby and camera in hand. Finance & Grants Manager Kris Kosola We are very excited to announce that Kris Kosola has returned to the Creative Flagstaff team! Kris has been a part of the Creative Flagstaff team since 2014. She is a business professional that has vast experience in business management, financials, grants management, presentations and workshops, entrepreneurship, and more. Kris took a brief 5 month sabbatical and is excited to be a part of the arts and science community again. Kris’s love for the arts includes theater production, ceramics, bellydancing, bluegrass spoon playing, and more. Kris enjoys spending time with her husband and their toddler either camping, hiking, boating, gardening, and just enjoying life. Exhibitions Preparator Jason Bohnert Jason Bohnert has joined Creative Flagstaff as our Exhibitions Preparator for the Coconino Center for the Arts. Jason is a studio potter, maker, and designer based in Flagstaff, AZ. After ten years teaching ceramics, drawing, and design at NAU from 2010-2020, Jason is currently building a house, planning a new wood kiln, and has installed an array of solar panels to offset 100% of electricity used for living and studio practice, including electric kiln firings. When not designing, building, and making, Jason can be found on his mountain bike enjoying nature and physical pursuits.
Construction for the new Digital Resource Center is progressing! Construction continues on the Digital Resource Center. We are looking forward to unveiling the finished space at the grand re-opening of CCA on Saturday, May 21st in conjunction with the opening of the NightVisions 2022 exhibition.

Through My Eyes: Diversity in My Community Art Contest The Northern Arizona Association of Realtors Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion committee has teamed up with ArtWalkFLG to host a Diversity Art Competition. This art competition is open to school age youth from kindergarten through 12th grade. Finalists will have their artwork displayed in Heritage Square during the April 1st ArtWalk, coinciding with Fair Housing Month. The public is invited to participate by voting on their favorite pieces during the ArtWalk. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category: elementary school kindergarten – 3rd grade, elementary school 3 – 5 grade , middle school 6-8 grade, and high school 9-12 grade.
Youth Arts 2022: Progress & Potential Youth Arts 2022: Progress & Potential is officially open. Thank you to all who attended the opening reception on Saturday, March 5. Gallery hours are 11 am – 5 pm, Wednesday – Saturday. By appointment only the week of March 14. Exhibition closes on April 2.
