FLAGSTAFF — A rousing performance by NAU Mar y Sol and the always moving blessing of the ofrendas closing ceremony highlighted the final day of the 14th annual Celebraciones de la Gente, presented on Oct. 22, 2017 by the Museum of Northern Arizona and Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces.

The all-women musical group Chollas Peligrosas returned for a final performance in the Jaime Major Golightly Historic Courtyard.

Heritage Insights Lectures concluded Sunday with the presentations of “Broken Families: Mexican Repatriation” by Dr. Jerry Garcia of NAU and “The Boundaries of Belonging” by Dr. T. Mark Montoya of NAU.

As has become a yearly tradition, Juan Carlo Ortiz led those in attendance in the offering the blessing of the copal smoke as he walked about Jaime Major Golightly Historic Courtyard followed by Mariachi Sol Azteca from Tucson.

Following the blessing of the altars in the courtyard, Ortiz led procession to the community altar at the north entrance before taking the group outside for the annual group photo in front of the museum.
