We must provide all young people with the tools they need to succeed in school along with career opportunities so they can become a key part of the region’s vibrant economy.
Part one of that effort was tackled by the “Extra Innings” Summer STEM Camp at Killip Elementary School in Flagstaff. Founded and operated by Jeronimo Vasquez, the program was recognized in June by the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence for engaging more than 70 students (3rd to 5th grade) in a three-week, hands-on program where they learned the science behind baseball, including statistics, geometry and biomechancis, the environment and studied the workings of the human body. Meanwhile, in an effort provide career opportunities for local college and university students, the Manifesto Project made its first stop in Flagstaff on July 16. Coming out of the Center for the Future of Arizona’s “The Arizona We Want 2.0,” the program is designed to recruit and retain talented young people who are committed to Arizona’s future. Fundado y operado por Jeronimo Vasquez, el programa se reconocio en junio por el Centro de Arizona para la Excelencia Despues de la Escuela (Center for Afterschool Excellence) por involucrar más que 70 estudiantes (grados 3 a 5) en un programa intensivo de tres semanas donde aprendieron la ciencia atras del beisbol, incluso la estadistica, la geometria y biomecánica, del medioambiente y la fisiologia del cuerpo humano.
