FLAGSTAFF — Beginning on May 17, 2018 the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and the Flagstaff Police Department will partner in conducting evening and early morning air patrols throughout the greater Flagstaff area. The goal of these patrols is to increase wild land fire prevention efforts.
Patrols from an aircraft provide an additional method to help locate campfires and other potentially illegal activity. Information from these patrols will help first responders on the ground more quickly locate and respond to potential fire hazards. This method of patrol has proven to be effective in in the past.
Air Patrols are expected to continue until fire threats are mitigated or fire bans are lifted.
Woods Watch Volunteers also have been activated. These volunteers have completed training specific to aiding in identifying and reporting suspicious activity on our forests.
