Coconino County Receives Budget Award

Coconino County’s Finance Department recently received the
Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation
Award.

The award represents a significant achievement for the Coconino County Finance Department, reflecting the commitment to meeting the highest principles of 7governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, Coconino County satisfied the nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an agency’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device.

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, as well as in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

“Coconino County is honored and proud to receive this recognition,” said County Manager Steve Peru. “Our County values and strives for financial excellence and transparency. This award demonstrates our continued commitment to these principles and to presenting a transparent, effective annual budget that serves our residents.”

“I am so proud of all the work Coconino County’s Finance Department does each year to develop and manage a budget and other processes built on best practices. This award from GFOA is well-deserved recognition for a job well done by our County Budget staff,” said County Chief Financial Officer Siri Mullaney.

There are over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA’s website. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
