Autumn in Coconino County

Autumn is a special time in Coconino County. From sunflowers to golden aspens, the landscape changes colors and welcomes many migratory animals. Coconino County parks and natural areas are great for autumn enthusiasts!

From wildlife watching to enjoying autumn gardens, Coconino County parks and natural areas have options for everyone.

Candy Making

It’s all treats and no tricks with the Fall Candy Making Class, just in time for Halloween and other autumn festivities. Have fun learning to make delicious candy with our incredible culinary instructor, Willa McAuliffe.

The class will be October 21st, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, at the Fort Tuthill County Park Mess Hall. You won’t want to miss the sweetest program of the year!

Pre-register here.

Wildlife Drinker

The Operations and Maintenance team installed a 30 ft. long, 13,000 pound water tank that can hold around 33,000 gallons of water, for a wildlife drinker system. This drinker will have a wildlife camera, which will allow the community to see the kinds of animals that live in or visit Fort Tuthill County Park. This is an exciting opportunity for wildlife observation and conservation! Stay tuned for wildlife updates.

The wildlife camera at Fort Tuthill County Park has already captured wildlife sightings, like this coyote. However, the drinking station will provide a greater ability to observe wildlife than the small seep that the camera currently watches.
Next Year’s County Fair

The Coconino County Fair may be over, but it’s never too early to think about your exhibit for next year. Are you preparing a garden bed? Perfecting a recipe? Learning a new skill? Quilting, sewing, knitting, spinning, weaving, or felting? Creating art or craft? Working on a hobby or collection? Collecting rocks, gems, and minerals? Raising an animal? Collecting your students’ classwork? Now is a great time to start planning! Let us know on Facebook or Instagram and tag the Coconino County Fair in your works in progress!

Rec on Wheels

Rec on Wheels will be in Page on November 2nd, from 2-5:00 p.m., in collaboration with Coconino County Health and Human Services. The program will also be in Leupp on November 8th, 5-6:30 p.m. for Family Engagement Night. We are excited to continue adding events and invite you to attend a program in your district in the future!

Book Corner

Autumn is finally here and with it a season of coziness. What better time to pick up a good book from your branch of the Coconino County Public Library System or local bookshop?

Young readers can celebrate exploring nature in the fall with Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak. This beautifully illustrated book celebrates exploring the changes in the natural world and encourages children to observe the seasons.

The autumn is a great time to observe trees in the parks and natural areas throughout Coconino County. The Sibley Guide to Trees by David Allen Sibley is a great companion for your autumn walks!

Concert season is wrapping up at the Pepsi Amphitheater at Fort Tuthill County Park. Catch the final show!
