Book Corner

Blustery weather makes for the perfect time to curl up with a good book! 50 Things to do in the Urban Wild by Clare Gogerty is a book to get the creative juices flowing by giving you ideas for how to connect to your local area. Although written in the United Kingdom, the book is applicable to people living anywhere, including the diverse landscapes of Coconino County. Topics include how to create a leaf journal, how to identify trees in winter, cloud spotting, city hiking, and restoring natural habitats. Get inspired to enjoy your local trail system, nature, and wildlife. Maybe you can even learn skills that you can enter in the Coconino County Fair, with topics including growing plants and incorporating nature in art!

For younger readers, try All About the Grand Canyon by Don Lago, Alexandra Myers, and Robert Perrish. Did you know the Grand Canyon is in Coconino County? Appreciate this wonder of the world and get excited for your next Canyon adventure with this colorful, fun book!

Stop by your local branch of Coconino County Public Library or a bookshop near you, for these and other titles. Happy reading!

Bread Making Class

Bread. Such a basic thing that we take for granted. We know that it is essentially water and flour, but how do we get it to rise? How do we make one loaf crusty, and another soft? Come join us as we dive into bread making. We will learn the complexities, tips, and tricks of making homemade dough together.

This cooking class will be held on Saturday morning at the Fort Tuthill County Park Mess Hall in Flagstaff, AZ. It will be taught by our incredible culinary instructor, Willa McAuliffe.

The cost for this program is $30* for Adults (18 and older) and $18* for Youth (8 – 17 years old).

*There is a non-refundable credit card processing fee applied at check-out. Skip the processing fee by registering and paying with cash or a check at the Parks & Recreation Office, located at Fort Tuthill County Park.

Register and learn to bake delicious breads here!
