Are you bear aware?
We have had bear sightings in the area. Be bear aware when you enjoy the outdoors. Read about how to be bear aware here!
- Secure food and never feed the bears.
- Although they are friend shaped, they are not friends and do not need a snack. Never approach wildlife, especially mother bears with cubs.
- Do not run from bears. Remain calm. Running can trigger a chase response, and you cannot outrun the bear. Group together and pick up small children. Keep dogs secure.
- Face the bear and back away slowly.
- If a bear continues to approach, make yourself look larger and make loud noises.
- Carry and know how to use bear spray.
- If you are approaching a wooded area where you cannot see what wildlife may be around, don’t be afraid to give a shout of, “Hey, bear!”
Remember, you can coexist with wildlife and recreate safely as long as you are prepared! |
