Green Hearts in the Park
Celebrate Earth Day 2024 at Louise Yellowman County Park by helping clean up our beautiful park, support the local community, and spend time with loved ones! This event offers something for everyone, including a park cleanup, sports and lawn games, food, and music. Bring family and friends to join Coconino County Parks and Recreation and the Friends of Coconino County Parks on April 21st, 2024 between 12:00pm and 4:00pm. Let’s make this Earth Day one to remember! This family friendly event is free to attend. Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Event registration is not required, but is encouraged to help gauge our participant numbers. Register here! |

Family Fun Run
Join the Friends of Coconino County Parks for a fun run at Fort Tuthill County Park. There are 10K, 5K, and 1-mile races, with medals for the top three runners and T-shirts for all participants. There will be food vendors, including Single Speed Coffee, The Sassy Fig and Scoop There It Is, as well as live music from Ruff Stuff, Girl Etc., Sunday the Cats, and Jeremy Davis. The races start at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13th.

Basic Archery Clinic
Learn the basics of bows and arrows, using equipment specifically designed for the beginning archer. This introductory program emphasizes understanding the terminology and equipment, shooting safety, and developing basic archery skills. Most importantly, there will be plenty of hands-on fun! No previous archery experience necessary.
The clinic will be held at the Fort Tuthill County Park Archery Range in Flagstaff, Arizona.
The cost for this program is $28 for Adults (18 and older) and $17 for Youth (8 – 17 years old).

Arizona Watchable Wildlife Experience Presents: A Bird Walk
Join wildlife experts in this season’s first bird walk with Arizona Watchable Wildlife Experience! We will meet at Rogers Lake County Natural Area (7 miles SW of Flagstaff on Woody Mountain Road / Forest Road 231, at the first Rogers Lake entrance sign as you arrive at the County Natural Area). Bring your binoculars, sturdy shoes, a sunhat, a notebook and pencil, and perhaps your camera! This event is free, but registration will be required.
Notes: We will hike up to 3 miles. Bring whatever you want for hiking, and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring binoculars and bird guide if you have them – we will have some binoculars for those that don’t.

Book Corner
April is a bookworm’s paradise with the Northern Arizona Book Festival, April 11-14. Readers can find a list of writers and publishers on the festival website, including Tina Deschenie, whose work appears in The Diné Reader: An Anthology of Navajo Literature edited by Esther G. Belin, Jeff Berglund, et al. Find her work and all Northern Arizona Book Festival participants, as well as a schedule of events here!
Young adult readers can get excited about the world of STEM with Chemistry for Breakfast: The Amazing Science of Everyday Life by Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim and Claire Lenkova. This illustrated text makes STEM concepts relatable and interesting in a way that will surely help on those end of the year exams.
Kids can get excited for spring with Roots, Shoots, Buckets & Boots: Gardening Together with Children by Sharon Lovejoy, for intermediate readers and families, and Our Community Garden by Barbara Pollak, for young ones. Remember, you can enter your flowers, vegetables, greens, fruits, and more in the Coconino County Fair!
