CCC&Y partners with Building Community to increase prevention initiatives

CCC&Y is excited to partner with Building Community.  Leadership expansion is an important pillar of Self-Healing communities.  It is our intent to increase voice, connection and partnership throughout the county through this very targeted service.  We have engaged Rene to help increase our reach for prevention initiatives, support our child abuse and substance abuse prevention strategies across the county and to assist with increasing our NEAR-informed (neuroscience, epigenetics, ACES and Resiliency) capacity — Virginia Watahomigie, executive director, Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth

The 12th Annual Viola Awards debuted two new awards in the categories of placemaking and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Saturday evening. The ceremony, held at the High Country Conference Center, also honored individuals and organizations in the arts, music, teaching, theater and innovation.

Chris Luginbuhl claimed the win for STEAM for the NightVisions exhibition while Lowell Observatory’s Giovale Open Deck Observatory earned the award for Excellence in Placemaking. …

Excellence in Education went to Shayne Smith, the Flagstaff High School director of theater arts and bands.

Arizona Legislative Education Spotlight

People attending the House Education meeting March 2 voiced their support for legislation, including Senate Bill 1060 that would raise special education funding.

Here’s what Vicki Alger, who was there to support SB 1061, said to AZEdNews. Alger is president and CEO of Vicki Murray & Associates LLC in Scottsdale, a research fellow at Independent Institute, and author of the book Failure: The Federal “Misedukation” of America’s Children.
