Education Spotlight

By the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth

FLAGSTAFF — Sporadic rain during the afternoon didn’t keep youth and parents away at the 2024 Annual Community STEM Celebration at the Fort Tuthill Fairgrounds on April 27, 2024.

More than 60 exhibitors took part in the free event which drew an estimated 900 participants to the fairgrounds, according to STEM City Coordinator Eli Cohen.

“I’d just like to thank you for your participation and support before, during, and after (the April 24) event,” Cohen wrote to exhibitors. “Despite the ‘challenging’ weather (snow, sun, rain, sun, snow, rain, sun, and on and on and on…), I think we put on an amazing event with great energy, super teamwork, and lots and lots of happy kids and families.”

While many exhibitors have traditionally set up their canopies and exhibits outside at the fairgrounds, the majority of exhibitors were able to set up inside the fairgrounds’ large warehouse building. Those braving the weather outside included Coconino High School Engineering, which set up a compressed air launch rocket range next to the Discing4Kids and CCC&Y‘s stomp rocket exhibits; the Flagstaff Police Dept.’s Bomb Squad vehicle, Highlands Fire District rescue vehicles, KAFF Country live radio, Kinney Construction Services‘ construction vehicles and food trucks.
