FLAGSTAFF — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has honored the City of Flagstaff with a WaterSense Excellence Award for the City’s work promoting WaterSense and water efficiency in 2022. WaterSense, a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the EPA, is both a label for water-efficient products, programs, and homes and a resource for helping consumers learn about ways to save water.
In 2022, the City of Flagstaff Water Conservation Program conducted 53 public outreach events reaching over 4,000 people. Through these events, in addition to mailings, residential and commercial water consultations, municipal facilities retrofits, and other programs, the Flagstaff Water Conservation Program distributed over 450 showerheads and more than 1,200 aerators. To help customers reduce water use at home, the Program continues to offer free Home Water Check-up Kits, which include instructions for checking plumbing fixtures for leaks, a WaterSense labeled faucet aerator, and materials to encourage residents to replace inefficient fixtures with WaterSense labeled models.
Tamara Lawless, Water Conservation Manager said “The City of Flagstaff leans heavily on the EPA WaterSense Program when determining which fixtures to recommend and install across the Flagstaff community. Their guidance ensures that we are saving water as well as guaranteeing superior performance.”
