FLAGSTAFF — The Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) Board of Directors has approved four grants to the City of Flagstaff Water Services through the Water Conservation Grant Fund (WCGF). The WCGF is one of three new funds established last year by the Arizona state legislature. This fund facilitates activities that work toward reducing water consumption and creating water efficiency programs. The City of Flagstaff applied for multiple grants to improve water efficiency in our water delivery systems and develop tools that model local watershed and groundwater systems.
The four grants awarded to the City by WIFA include $750K to accelerate the replacement of water meters with ultrasonic meters, $136K to improve the tracking of non-revenue water, $60K for the development of a watershed model for the Upper Lake Mary Watershed, and $80K for the development of a computer model that will integrate the City’s existing surface water and groundwater models.
The City applied for WIFA funding to help accelerate these initiatives and is ecstatic to have these applications approved by the WIFA Board. Water Services Director Shannon Jones commented, “Water Services is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority, and we look forward to utilizing this funding to build upon and improve these programs and serve our community.”
City of Flagstaff Water Services staff continue to look for additional grant funding opportunities that will advance excellence in all its programs.
