FLAGSTAFF — Flagstaff Mayor Jerry Nabours will present a proclamation of “Recognition for Plaza Vieja Safe Sidewalks” during the next Flagstaff City Council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 211 W. Aspen Ave., Flagstaff.

The proclamation and recognition portion of the meeting has been moved to 6 p.m., according to the council’s final agenda.

Neighbors beat back overhanging bushes and trees, weeded, swept, and picked up trash throughout La Plaza Vieja on Oct. 18, city officials reported in a media release.

“We are really proud of the work that the neighborhood has done. They are the first neighborhood in Flagstaff to fully clear their sidewalks and they did it as a community,” Tom Boughner, community code compliance officer stated in the release. “We hope this is a model that other neighborhoods and citizens will follow in the future.”

“We want our neighborhood to be seen city-wide as a safe place to walk and ride a bicycle,” Laura Bustamonte-Myers, neighborhood outreach director stated in the release.

The neighborhood gets together for a clean-up weekend twice a year and this year they focused on making sidewalks clear and safe, city officials reported.
