Bilingual report: CHAC to present College & Career Resource Fair on March 7

March 7 — College & Career Resource FairAmigosNAZ staff report

FLAGSTAFF — The Coconino Hispanic Advisory Council will present its inaugural “College & Career Resource Fair” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at Killip Elementary School, 2300 E. 6th Ave., Flagstaff.

The fair is open to all parents, high school students and interested community members.

Free admission to all.

The job and college information fair will be aimed not only at high school students, but also their parents and the community, organizers reported in a media release. The council is creating this fair to help  youth prepare for employment, internships, job shadowing, high-school-to-college transition and find financial aid as they prepare for higher education and the next steps needed for their future.

College and Career Resource Fair — Part IIInitial plans call for the fair to include tables placed around the gym featuring information on upcoming résumé writing and interview technique workshops, job shadowing opportunities, agencies to contact regarding summer job and internships, potential employers, high-school-to-college transition programs and potential scholarship, financial aid options and first-generation in college general information.

Organizers are also planning a series of short classroom panel presentations featuring information from speakers on preparing for summer jobs and internships, high-school-to-college transition programs, understanding the process of applying for financial aid and adjusting to college or university life. The goal is to have translators available during many of the workshops and at the information fair.

Initial partners include Coconino Community College Career Services, the Coconino County Career Center, the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth, Flagstaff Unified School District and Northern Arizona University.
