“Mindfulness for Youth:” We are hoping to go beyond just teaching youth mindfulness- we would like them to become leaders and start developing creative content that we can share to get others involved. Would love to see some youth groups get involved with this one. But all of this will start with getting some training. Trainer Rene RedDay

In today’s newsletter, we would like to address an important and difficult issue that unfortunately affects many individuals in Coconino County, and that is domestic violence, child abuse, and COVID-19.
According to the American Psychological Association, traumatic events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, can lead to an increase in domestic violence and child abuse due to isolation, increased stress, and time alone with one another. MSNBC recently reportedthat calls to the National Domestic Violence have increased since the beginning of the pandemic.

Coconino County Residents Count:
Fill out the 2020 Census!
What is the 2020 Census and Why is it Important?
The census aims to collect an accurate count of our population which determines federal funding for our communities for resources like schools, hospitals, fire departments, roads, etc. The census also helps determine federal funding in times of disaster like the COVID-19 pandemic or forest fires, as well as determines the amount of seats Arizona will have in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Coconino Coalition for Children and Youth (CCC&Y) strives to prevent substance abuse and other negative outcomes in adulthood by understanding the effects of childhood traumatic experience and mobilizing community action. Research shows that Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, contribute to the likelihood of addiction. Sadly, however, Arizona ranks higher than the national average for children who have experienced ACEs. These can include childhood traumas such as abuse and neglect. In fact, according to the Arizona ACE Consortium, “It is estimated that nearly 70,000 children in Arizona have more than five ACEs.”
