COCONINO COUNTY — Since 1995, the first full week of April has been recognized as National Public Health Week (NPHW) to champion the health of all Americans.
Locally, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors (Board) recognized this observance and proclaimed the week of April 3 – 9 as Public Health Week in Coconino County.
During this week, we celebrate the efforts of public health and social services professionals, their achievements, and the impact they make on the wellbeing of all. Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS), whose Mission is: empowering people, confronting inequities, influencing policy, and bettering lives, is at the forefront of this important work.
“The work of our Health and Human Services team may go unnoticed in our everyday lives in Coconino County,” said Lena Fowler, Supervisor for District 5. “They encourage healthy lifestyles and disease prevention, they look out for the quality of our air and drinking water, they give residents and visitors peace of mind knowing they can eat in clean restaurants, they touch our lives in so many ways each day.”
Throughout the year, CCHHS focuses on vital public health and social services efforts. Many people and community partners are also involved in this essential work. The annual appreciation is an opportunity to recognize the valuable efforts of everyone involved in improving the health and wellbeing of our communities.
