COCONINO COUNTY — Janet Regner, Community Service Director for Coconino County, was one of four individuals statewide who received the 2016 Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award, presented each year to public servants who have worked tirelessly to serve the public interest.

Zimmerman, Gabrielle Giffords’ community outreach director, gave his life while serving the citizens of Arizona.

The honors were presented at a luncheon on July 21, 2016 at the Arizona County Managers Association Annual Conference. This year, the awards are being presented to:

Community Builders: Recognizing efforts to advance community pride and connectedness through such areas as job creation and training, healthy communities, environmental and historical preservation, volunteer and philanthropic efforts, and educational advancement.

  •  Janet Regner, Community Service Director for Coconino County
  •  Greg Wilkinson, City Administrator for City of Yuma

Civic Leader: Recognizes extraordinary leaders who have demonstrated knowledge, skills and commitment to addressing Arizona’s long-term issues and the personal leadership capacity to make Arizona a better place for future generations. Open to public service employees of any city, town, county, state, or tribal government and staff members of Arizona’s congressional delegation.

  •  Tom Manos, Maricopa County Manager (Ret.)

Emerging Leader: Recognizes public service employees committed to the overall civic health and community connection of the constituents they serve while bringing innovation, energy and compassion to their position and serving as a role model for others. Nominees are judged on their qualities and achievements — how they have changed the way government works to serve the public interest; ability to take risks and inspire others; impact on connecting Arizonans to the civic health of their community; new ideas to improve cost, efficiency and delivery of public service; and legacy contribution of lasting significance.

“These exemplary public servants represent the spirit of service to the public by which Gabe Zimmerman lived his life,” Dr. Lattie Coor, chairman and CEO of the Center for the Future of Arizona, said. “We are pleased to recognize their achievements and commitment to building the Arizona We Want.”

With support from the Zimmerman family, the 2016 Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Awards are sponsored by the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA,) the County Supervisors Association of Arizona (CSA,) Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc., and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns, in conjunction with the Center for the Future of Arizona.
