FLAGSTAFF — Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) elementary schools are hosting Kindergarten Open House and Registration events for incoming kindergarten students and their families on Wednesday, February 24th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Students entering kindergarten in summer 2016 must turn five years of age before September 1st. Families should bring proof of birth date, home address and immunization records with them to the Open House.
Registration packets are available now in all FUSD elementary schools, many local preschools, and the district’s Family Resource Center at 4000 North Cummings Street for those parents who would like to complete the forms at home before submitting them to the school during the Open House on February 24th.
The Open House will give parents an opportunity to visit the school and classrooms as well as to meet kindergarten teachers. This pre-registration also gives the District a good estimate of total kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year to more accurately plan staffing needs and space availability to meet boundary exception requests.
Parents who plan to submit a boundary exception to attend another FUSD school may complete the registration materials and attend the Open House at their school of choice. Notifications will be made by June 1st, at which time the completed paperwork can be transferred to another school if necessary.
Those who are unable to attend the Open House are encouraged to contact their school to schedule a time to register their incoming kindergarten student in the days following the event.
If parents are uncertain of the appropriate school attendance area, they can call the FUSD Transportation Department at 527-2305 or use the online “School Locator” at www.fusd1.org.
