Picasso at the Lapin Agile — March 14 – 30

Theatrikos is pleased to present Picasso at the Lapin Agile. This historical fiction comedy, written by actor and comedian Steve Martin, is set in Paris in the early twentieth century. The play centers around Picasso and Einstein who meet in a bar in 1904 and discuss art, science and the future of the world. Throughout the play they meet a host of other characters including a man from the future, “the visitor.”

Director John Forsythe said, “I am thrilled to make my Theatrikos directing debut with Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapine Agile. This gem has all the smarts and silliness you’d expect from Martin, in this imagined meeting of the most influential artist and scientist of the twentieth century, Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein. It should send the audience out repeating the funniest moments of the evening as well as debating which of the two men influenced our world view more. Or is it the surprise visitor later in the play?”

Performances run March 14-30, 2025.

“I love that this play was written by the great Steve Martin and the connection and flow between the characters is brilliant.”

National Theatre Live – The Motive and the Cue

Theatrikos Theatre Company is thrilled to announce a partnership with the National Theatre of London. We will be screening performances filmed in front of a live audience. Our next presentation is The Motive and the Cue. Sam Mendes (American Beauty) directs Mark Gatiss as John Gielgud and Johnny Flynn as Richard Burton in this fierce and funny new play.

1964: Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, is to play the title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet under John Gielgud’s exacting direction. But as rehearsals progress, two ages of theatre collide and the collaboration between actor and director soon threatens to unravel.

Written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and designed by Es Devlin (The Crucible), the Evening Standard award-winning best new play was filmed live during a sold-out run at the National Theatre.

Beer and wine will be served at both shows.

March 8 at 2 and 7 pm.

The Play That Goes Wrong

A play within a play, The Play That Goes Wrong follows the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’s disastrous production of a 1920s murder mystery, The Murder at Haversham Manor.

As the performance unfolds, everything that can go wrong does—doors stick, props fail and lines are forgotten—creating a hilarious comedy of errors that’s sure to keep audiences laughing.

Director Jan Rominger shared, “I am so excited to direct this play for Theatrikos and our Flagstaff audience. It is the funniest play that I’ve ever seen and can’t wait for our audience to enjoy this absurd farce.”
