A symposium in partnership with the ASU Center for the Study of Race and Democracy is scheduled for Feb. 8 in Sedona and will feature keynote speaker and renowned dancer, choreographer and scholar LaTasha Barnes. These events offer opportunities for audiences of all ages and backgrounds to explore African American creativity and cultural perspectives.

‘Vision & Sound’ is an immersive arts experience that highlights the achievements of Black artists in the visual and performing arts,” said Julie Richard, CEO of Sedona Arts Center. “It underscores our commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and showcasing the incredible talent and contributions of the Black artist community.”

Exhibitions will feature an array of artwork, including paintings, photography, sculpture, fiber art and mixed media by Anjola Ayodele, Dorrell Bradford, Antoinette Cauley, Jacqueline Chanda, Michael Cunningham, Lizz Denneau, Amber Doe, Debra Edgerton, Chas Frisco Isse Maloi, Bob Martin, Patricia Bohannon, Philip Gabriel Steverson, George Welch and Shoreigh Williams. Artworks examine themes of identity, resilience and cultural legacy through personal and collective narratives.

Founded in 2014 by Michael Cunningham and his late wife, Norma Cunningham, “Vision & Sound” began as a week-long exhibition in Phoenix’s West Valley during Black History Month. Over the years it has expanded in scope, increasing opportunities for engagement and meaningful dialogue.

“Sedona Arts Center is proud to partner with Valley municipalities and organizations to provide inclusive spaces where diverse stories and cross-cultural perspectives can be shared, explored and appreciated,” Richard said.
