Hunchback of Notre Dame
Workshop In Rehearsal
Theatrikids Educational Theatre Program:
The Stage Buddies program, now in its tenth year, brings the classic Hunchback of Notre Dame to the Theatrikos stage for six performances in February. In this abilities-inclusive program, actors age 15-18 are paired to share a role in the play.
Cast member Adam Conley said, “I’ve done this for a while. I was in Rumpelstiltskin. My favorite thing is acting! I love it because I get to act with other people.” Erik Mattson, cast member, added, “Acting is my dream and I love being in the spotlight. I’ve been in a couple of plays like Aristocats, Cinderella and Rumpelstiltskin.”
Kenzie Lees, production assistant, said, “Participating in youth theatre has become a new passion of mine over the past few years and I wanted to explore this in a space that is so inclusive and safe for actors of all abilities to be a part of. I hope this production inspires others to come see what Stage Buddies and Theatrikos is all about.”
Based on the Victor Hugo novel, Hunchback of Notre Dame is set in 15th-century Paris and centers around Quasimodo, the bell ringer of Notre-Dame Cathedral. He falls in love with the beautiful La Esmeralda. The story involves themes of love, acceptance, and societal prejudice.
Hunchback of Notre Dame runs February 7 – 16.
