Theatrikos Theatre Company — Hilarious comedy Lend Me A Tenor Opens this Friday, July 21

Theatrikos Theatre Company brings the classic farce Lend Me A Tenor to the Flagstaff stage. This 9-time Tony Award nominated—with two wins!—side-splitting classic farce is full of madcap setups, mistaken identities, room swaps, hilarious misunderstandings, bawdy overtones and quirky characters that make this gloriously fun.

Premiering on London’s West End in 1986, on Broadway in 1989, revived on Broadway in 2010, and set during in 1934, the comedy has a slapstick Marx Brothers hilarity. Broadway.comcalled the 2010 Broadway revival, “The most howlingly funny and ingeniously staged laugh machine to hit Broadway in years.”

Taking place in an extravagant Cleveland hotel, this show depicts the comic pandemonium that arises when a superstar tenor from Italy arrives for his debut performance with the local opera company. The opera star ends up in a drunken stupor and everyone thinks he’s dead. So, the theatre’s mild-mannered assistant must frantically take his place. Or does he? And what about the bellhop?

Alan Bennett’s story is based on the true story of Miss Shepherd (played by the magnificent Maggie Smith), a woman of uncertain origins who “temporarily” parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years.

What begins as a begrudged favor becomes a relationship that will change both their lives.
