25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee amasses 25 million stitches—portraying the number of refugees displaced from their homelands across the world—on 14 foot-long muslin embroidered flags filling 4,000 square feet of exhibition space at Coconino Center for the Arts. The project was launched by artist Jennifer Kim Sohn as a global, participatory art project to address the vast crisis of worldwide displacement.

This Digital Humanities workshop series looks to encourage the community to consider how they can record and share their own experiences of migration, displacement, or other experiences. Three sessions include archival collecting, recording oral histories, and compiling a curated digital archive. Participants will leave the workshop with the skills to curate their own digital family archive.

Home & Identity: The Refugee Experience

FREE PANEL DISCUSSION

Thursday, December 1, 7 – 8:30 pm

To be a refugee is not an identity but the result of losing one’s home. In a vibrant panel discussion moderated by Bjorn Krondorfer, Ph.D. panelists will share insights regarding the experiences of people who have become refugees, of people who are suffering from displacement and despair, of people in need of a welcoming hand who, instead, often face closed doors and hostilities.
