Announcements
The Downtown and East Flagstaff Community Libraries will be CLOSED Friday, Nov. 11th in honor of Veterans Day.
2022 Copper Quill Award Ceremony. Saturday, November 12, 2:30-4:30pm Uptown Billiards, 104 N. LeRoux, Flagstaff, AZ. Given annually by the Friends of the Library, the Copper Quill honors a local author's body of work and significant contributions to literature. This year's author will be honored at the Friends' annual volunteer luncheon and presented with a plaque and cash stipend.
Adult & All-Ages Events
From "Chief" to Code Talker: Four Profiles of the Navajo Code Talkers with Laura Tohe. During WWII a group of young Navajo men enlisted in the Marines without knowing that they would be called on to develop a secret code against the Japanese military. Their code was accurate, quick, never broken, and saved many American lives. This talk profiles four Code Talkers and their lives before and after the war, including Tohe's father. Monday, November 7th, 5:30pm to 7pm. Downtown Library.
Climate Conversations: Food Systems.  Part of the Climate Resilience Project, Climate Conversations are expert-facilitated discussions on the science, news, and feelings around a climate topic. Tuesday, November 8th at 6pm. Downtown Library.
Nuestra Cultura. Ven a conversar sobre la cultura hispana y latinoamericana, el segundo miércoles del mes en la sala comunitaria de la biblioteca del centro. Tendremos cafecito y té disponible. El 9 de Noviembre a las 5:30pm.
Internet Basics. Learn how to use web browsers and search engines, build skills to navigate the internet, and more. All technology is provided, just bring yourself! Seats are limited and registration is required.  Thursday, November 10th at 11am. Downtown Library.
Climate Resilience Project: Flagstaff's Path to Carbon Nuetrality. The Carbon Neutrality Plan establishes a vision for how Flagstaff will create a carbon-neutral future. Monday, November 17th at 6pm. Downtown Library and on Zoom.
Cyber Security Workshop. Learn how to avoid scams and protect your privacy when visiting websites, creating passwords, and more. All technology is provided. Seats are limited; registration is required.  *This is a course for intermediate learners. Attendees should already have an email and be able to confidently navigate the internet. Tuesday, November 15th at 2pm. Downtown Library.
Movie Tuesday: Dunkirk. In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping thousands of Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. In an act of desperation, Britain called on civilian boats to aid its hard-pressed Navy in a history-making evacuation.  This Academy Award winning film captures the terror of war as well as the courage and compassion of those responsible for what has become known as the Miracle at Dunkirk.  Popcorn will be provided! November 15th at 5:30pm. Rated PG-13.
Senior Coffee Hour. November 16th at 10AM. DOWNTOWN LIBRARY NORTH WEST CORNER. Coffee and Snacks Provided! Meet on the third Wednesday of each month to drink coffee and chat about resources and topics for seniors. This month, join Robbie Begay from Coconino County Senior Services to discuss transportation services, recreation trips, and more for adults 55+
Youth Events
Lego Club at the Downtown Library. We bring the bricks, you bring the imagination! Mondays September 19th and 26th, October 3rd, 17th, and 31st, and November 7th. 3:45pm. Ages 5 to 11.
Downtown Library Storytimes. Baby Laptime: Tuesdays, September 13th to November 15th, 9:15 am. Toddler Tales: September 13th to November 17th, Tuesdays at 10 am and Thursdays at 9:15 am. Preschool Express: September 14th to November 17th, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 am. Outside, weather permitting. Otherwise, they will be in the Community Room.
Creation Station stories and crafts: Wednesdays Sept. 14 & 28  Oct. 12 & 26 and Nov. 9 at 3:45pm in the Downtown Community Room. Ages 3 and up.
Bardes and Nobles: Dungeons and Dragons for teens.  Ages 12 to 17. 3rd Thursdays of the month, September through November. 5 to 7:30pm. Downtown Library.
Book Clubs
Thursday Night Book Club: The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. November 10th at 6 PM, Downtown Library & on Zoom.
Southwest Reads Book Club: Lazy B. 4th Monday of every other month at 5:30pm at the Downtown Library. November 28th.
Youth Climate Book Club: Meet on the 2nd Friday each month to have a deeper dialogue about climate with other youth (age 15-25) while discussing a section each month from All We Can Save. Pick up a copy at the Downtown or East Flagstaff library. Friday, December 2nd at 4:30pm, East Flagstaff Library. We'll be discussing the "Advocate" section.
LGBT Book Club. December 12th at 6:30pm, in-person at the East Flagstaff Community Library. Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel. Recommended for ages 18 and up.
Banned Book Club: Persepolis. Tuesday, December 13th at 5:30. Downtown Library Community Room. Revolution. Political upheaval. The search for freedom and belonging.  Join us to discuss the memoir as well as the concepts of free speech and censorship as we encounter them today.
Senior Book Club at the Joe C Montoya Community and Senior Center. December 19th at 1pm. The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller.
Technology Help
Free Technology Instruction and Resume Help. 30-minute,one-on-one instruction sessions available for help with introductory software, creating email accounts, downloading eBooks, résumé development, online job applications, and more.
