At the inaugural University Convocation Monday, President Cruz Rivera discussed with faculty and staff the highlights of Academic Year 2021-2022 and shared NAU’s three overarching goals for the next academic year: defining the New NAU System, differentiating NAU Online and developing a strategic enrollment management plan that will expand the number of people to whom an NAU education is available.

National Aviation Day ✈️

Some people enjoy crafting. Others play sports. Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management Matt Tantau’s hobby is flying planes. Earning his pilot’s license in 2010 was one of the hardest things he has done, but it opened up his world to aviation and the life lessons that came with it.

Addressing the Arizona teacher shortage

NAU, Tolleson Elementary School District and Littleton Elementary School District partnered to create professional career paths and teacher certification for anyone interested in pursuing an NAU degree leading to teacher certification and a rewarding career. Through the Arizona Teachers Academy Scholarship, talented individuals interested in serving Arizona’s students can complete the necessary degree program tuition-free.

Helping children see

DYK that 80 percent of a child’s learning is visual? So, what happens when a child is visually impaired? Or, what happens when a child is visually impaired and doesn’t know it? Despite regular vision screenings being recommended throughout a child’s early development, Arizona has one of the lowest rates in the nation for testing children for visual impairment. NAU’s Institute for Human Development, with the help of a machine awarded by Eyes On Learning, is determined to change that.
