Sedona Arts Center — Souls of Forgotten Objects Exhibition is open

Souls of Forgotten Objects
Curated by Geoffrey Gorman
Now Showing through December 23, 2021
in the Special Exhibition Gallery at Sedona Arts Center

Open Monday through Friday 10am to 5pm

Exploring the intersection between trash and treasure, Souls of Forgotten Objects brings found or forgotten objects together to create something beautiful. Whether that is an old tree branch, bike tire, cardboard, colorful material, metal or paper, the exhibit takes these found or lost materials and turns them in to magnificent art.  Curious, evocative, dynamic or meditative, Sedona Arts Center invited artists to think outside the box, canvas or convention in submitting pieces for this spectacular exhibit.

“The challenge that I see in working with recycled and found materials is to transform it from it’s original purpose into something that totally changes it’s context. It’s all about transformation, something that we as humans are constantly dealing with. What I looked for while jurying this show was the ability of the artist to create something new, an original vision while still using lost and found material as the major part of the work. It was satisfying to run across so many new interpretations of how to work with recycled stuff and see how an artist can  transform discarded materials into artistic wonders.”

Souls of Forgotten Objects, Curated by Geoffrey Gorman

About the Curator: Geoffrey Gorman

Geoffrey has been leading workshops, hosting panel discussions, and giving presentations for artists and arts groups for more than twenty-five years. With his extensive background in the arts, he brings a unique, humorous and fresh perspective on the world of artists, galleries and the business of art.

Geoffrey currently is a practicing artist, creating his original found material sculptures in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He shows his work around the United States and has also exhibited in China and South Korea. Over the last several years his unique sculptures have been written about in the New York Post, Southwest Art, American Craft, American Style and Cloth, Paper, Scissors.

Growing up on an old plantation in the country outside of Baltimore, MD, he refers to a “Huck Finn-like” environment; old quarries, woods filled with animals, dilapidated barns and fallen houses. Geoffrey was surrounded by a wide variety of animal and human characters.

Going to a variety of art colleges eventually led Geoffrey into designing and building contemporary furniture. From there he became a gallery dealer, curated shows, was an art consultant and coach for artists before becoming a full-time artist.
