Please Join Us: Sandbag Filling Shifts Now Through Friday Hello, The weather outside is frightful – or at least the predictions for rain are. While today should be mostly sunny, it looks like the monsoons will be returning later this week and sticking around throughout the weekend. That’s why we are working with the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County to arrange multiple volunteer opportunities to help fill sandbags this week. Each day there are two shifts – from 8 am to Noon and then from 1 to 5 pm. Please note, however, that you don’t have to work all four hours of a shift; any amount of time you can help will be appreciated. Hundreds of you have already given your time and we are very grateful. But sandbags are like toilet paper during the first months of Covid; they are going like hotcakes and the demand is sky high. Seriously, many of our friends and neighbors have had a tough summer, with flood waters rushing down their streets and threatening their homes. Your assistance will ensure that they have a line of protection during the anticipated storms. Some things to remember before signing up: Heavy machinery is nearby so these volunteer opportunities are only open to adults 18 and older. This is heavy and somewhat dirty work and you need to be able to lift a 40-pound sandbag. Closed-toe shoes are required. Please bring work gloves if you have them (and if it’s actually sunny, a hat and sunscreen are recommended). If you are interested in volunteering, please register at our Volunteer Hub.
