Message from Supervisor Jeronimo Vasquez
Greetings Everyone,
We have been pretty busy this month! I am enjoying meeting more people and connecting with the District 2 community. It has been a month full of board meetings, events and lots of learning. I have walked along the Museum Fire drainages and am happy to report that a lot of work has gone into improving the drainage. Thank you to United Way, the County and the City for the efforts to get the drainages clear and ready for monsoon season. In addition, we had about 80 volunteers between two weekends come out to support the neighborhood volunteer day. Seeing everyone come together to help one another is a rare sighting, but I know District 2 is full of generous, loving people that want to see their community thrive. As the weather warms up I am looking forward to seeing family, spending time with my kids and working on items for the fall. I hope that you reach out to my office whenever you need. You can reach District 2 at 928-679-7162 or email me at jvasquez@coconino.az.gov or contact my District Director, Areina Contreras at acontreras@coconino.az.gov.
We are both here to serve you!

United Way Volunteer Events
Thank you to United Way for the partnership to create two community sandbag days. We had a great response from the community and have done a good amount of work to improve the protection of residential areas in the Sunnyside neighborhood. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers that gave up part of their weekend!

Kindercamp Visit
It was so fun to visit Kindercamp this last week. If you don’t know, the KinderCamp program is designed to help children and families with limited resources prepare for the transition into the school system. As a former educator that transition can be tough, but through this program kids are able to learn what it means to go to school. Also, the parents have a change to feel out the emotions that come with sending your baby to school.
It was such a treat to see the kids, interact with the staff and learn more about the precautions taken due to COVID. This goes to show that more than ever our educators for vital to our future as our kids still need programs even if the world has to adjust.
Thank you to all the teachers and staff that run this program especially during this post pandemic world!
Juneteenth Business Expo
Happy Juneteenth everyone! On this historic day, I visited the Black Business Expo Hosted by the Southside Community Association in partnership with the Coconino County African Diaspora Advisory Council (ADAC). ADAC serves as an official liaison between African American citizens and the Coconino County Board of Supervisors. The Coconino County African Diaspora Advisory Council was established in 2001 by the Board of Supervisors. The Council was created to provide an official liaison and communication link between the African American community and Coconino County. The council is composed of volunteer members appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Members must reside in Coconino County. Members should also have an interest in and knowledge of issues and concerns of importance to African Diaspora residing in Coconino County. One does not need to be African American to be a member. The Council is currently recruiting interested members. Interested citizens are encouraged to submit an electronic application for membership to the council.
For more information about the Council please read the brochure or contact (928) 679-7135.
CCC CDL Program Ribbon Cutting
Coconino Community College hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil a new commercial driver’s license training program. This program is through a partnership with Phoenix Truck Driving School and is the first CDL program offered in Northern Arizona. This presents a unique opportunity to our region and workforce. I am very excited to see the opportunities this program gives to our residents and industry in the area.
