Being Fire Aware
As seasonal temperatures rise and hot and dry conditions increase, your help is essential in preventing wildfires. Follow local campfire safety and fire restrictions.
Coconino County is currently in Stage 1 fire restrictions. Stage 1 prohibits fires, including campfires, charcoal, coal, and wood stoves, as well as a ban on fireworks. View the flyer for more information on becoming fire aware and doing your part to prevent wildfires this season. For more information and updates of fire restrictions,

It is fire season. Coconino County is always in a stage of “Ready” in the “Ready, Set, Go” system. This means residents should have an emergency kit with enough food, water, and necessary supplies for at least 72 hours, as well as the five P’s; people and pet supplies, prescriptions, papers, personal needs and priceless items.

Coconino County Fair to be Held In-Person Labor Day Weekend
With guidance from Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS) and consideration of the latest recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on outdoor activities and large events, Coconino County Parks & Recreation will produce the 72nd annual Coconino County Fair as an in-person
event this Labor Day weekend, September 3 – September 6, 2021. Last year’s Fair was modified to an all-virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to move to an in-person event was done thoughtfully with the greatest consideration for COVID-19 safety protocols, the County’s community transmission levels, and CDC recommendations. While vaccinated people are not required to wear a face mask, unvaccinated people will be asked to mask at the County Fair, especially while indoors. Extra hand sanitizing stations will be provided around the Fairgrounds and in each of the buildings. Guests will be encouraged to socially distance while at
the Fair, and staff recommends attendees purchase their tickets online to avoid standing in admission lines.
Barring significant changes in COVID-19 transmission levels in the County or guidance from CCHHS, the Arizona Department of Health Services, or the CDC, the Coconino County Fair will feature in-person exhibits and livestock shows, the Northern Arizona Junior Livestock Association Auction, a carnival with amusement rides, a beer garden, fair food, commercial vendors, and live entertainment.
“We are excited to host the annual Coconino County Fair this year in-person and welcome visitors back to the fairgrounds,” said Ricky Conway, Fair Manager. “Last year was tough for so many individuals and a difficult time for events, and while we are grateful to have been able to produce an all-virtual Fair, we are thrilled to bring the community together once again in-person. The Fair facilitates so much, from youth development with the 4-H program, to showcasing our community’s talents through their entries and exhibits, to fun live music, and memorable fair food and carnival rides. It’s exciting to be back.”
“We appreciate Parks & Recreation’s care and consideration for planning a fun and engaging event, but most importantly, a safe one. With our COVID-19 cases falling and our vaccination rates rising, Coconino County Health and Human Services supports holding the fair in-person with attention to safety protocols,” said Kim Musselman, Director of Health and Human Services.
The Coconino County Fair is generally held every year over the Labor Day weekend at Fort Tuthill County Park with over 40,000 people attending the event, making it the largest event in Northern Arizona. For more information, visit CoconinoCountyFair.com.

FCC’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will begin on May 12 to provide low-income families with discounted broadband service
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer are encouraging eligible Navajo families to enroll in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC)
Emergency Broadband Benefit Program beginning on May 12, to receive a monthly discount on the cost of broadband service from an approved provider. Eligible households can enroll through an approved provider or by visiting https://getemergencybroadband.org.
The FCC’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will provide eligible households with discounts of up to $75 a month if the household is on tribal land. It also will provide a one-time discount of up to $100 on a computer or tablet for eligible households. The program is open to the following:
  • Households that participate in an existing low-income or pandemic relief program offered by a broadband provider
  • Lifeline subscribers, including those that are on Medicaid or accept SNAP benefits
  • Households with kids receiving free and reduced-price lunch or school breakfast
  • Pell grant recipients
  • Those who have lost jobs and seen their income reduced in the last year
“The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the need for broadband connectivity to meet the needs of our students, teachers, first responders, elders, and others. Our administration has met with the FCC on several occasions to advocate for the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, spectrum use, and other tools to help increase broadband connectivity. With the anticipated American Rescue Plan Act funds, we are planning for more broadband infrastructure development for our communities. We encourage all eligible Navajo families to contact your service provider to enroll in the program,” said President Nez.
On Feb. 12, Vice President Lizer participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the FCC to gather input and recommendations to help with the establishment of the program. He spoke about the vast needs for telecommunications improvements to provide broadband services for families, students, tele-medicine, first responders, and many others.
“Thank you to FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel and all of the members for working together with the Navajo Nation and incorporating our input into the development of the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program. The federal-tribal partnerships that we build together result in great benefits for our citizens and our communities. We look forward to continuing to partner with the FCC as we move forward,” stated Vice President Lizer.
