THE HABITAT GARDENS AT WILLOW BEND AND SAWMILL COUNTY PARK
Did you know there are several habitat gardens at Sawmill County Park, adjacent to Willow Bend Environmental Education Center? The Center’s staff and volunteers maintain the gardens and provide tours and opportunities for volunteers to get their hands dirty and connect with nature.
With spring now here, volunteers have been anticipating hands-on work at the Sawmill Habitat Gardens. Volunteers are crafting language for interpretive signs, starting seeds, researching plants, recording weather data, rehabilitating trail and stabilizing slope, and more. While the Center is currently closed, the gardens and trails are open to the public.
BOOKING A SPECIAL EVENT

We have many facilities available for rent, including the sports field at Peaks View County Park, Frontiere at Rogers Lake, and the horse stables and arenas at Fort Tuthill County Park. Coconino County Parks & Recreation has been working with County Management and the County’s Health and Human Services department to review reentry plans, anticipated use of Fort Tuthill as a COVID-19 response site, possible gathering sizes, and next steps. Visit Parks & Recreation’s Special Events page for more information.
