In-Person Learning at Sedona Arts Center
The Sedona Arts Center’s ceramic department operates free from the constraints of grades and benefits from the talents of its ceramic faculty and assistants as well as nationally recognized guest instructors. This combination allows our department to offer flexible and diverse programming in both traditional and contemporary techniques.

Ceramics For All Levels
New 6-week Courses beginning February 22
Through demonstration and one-on-one instruction, students will learn to throw a variety of forms on the potter’s wheel or techniques to create hand-built works. Slab roller, extruder and forms are also available to create functional and decorative pieces.

Tuition includes the first 25-pound bag of clay, firings and glazes, and one open studio session per week.  Additional bags of clay may be purchased during class for $30 per bag which includes glazing & firing fees.  Enrolled students may also participate in one open studio session per week.

Come play in the clay! Tap into your creative self and experience various hand-building techniques. Make bowls, boxes, sculptures, and tiles, using slabs, molds, and textures. The possibilities are endless. Open to all levels, beginners welcome!

Pottery Wheel For Beginners

Pottery Wheel for Beginners – 6 Class Sessions + 6 Open Studio Sessions

This six-week course is designed exclusively for those who are new to wheel work and is open for ages 12 through adult.  Have fun while gaining confidence on the potters wheel.  Small class size ensures that each student receives personalized, one-on-one instruction and encouragement for a fascinating hands-on experience that will bring out the potter in you.

Wow! Learn Loving Bowls Glazing Techniques
March 21, 2021
All Levels | Ceramics Studio  | 1 – 4 pm

Jump right in and get your hands dirty, using loving bowls glazing techniques. This experience will have you applying these techniques to your own small bisque fired works. Glaze master, Cliff Hamilton, will share his experience and secrets learned while handling over 14,000 Loving Bowls. Students need to bring 4 – 6 small (up to 6 inches) bisqued bowls with bottoms waxed. Bowls may be wheel thrown or hand built.

From Wheel to Table
April 11, 2021
Learn how to make different types of serving ware for food service. Focus will be on design, functionality and presentation. We will explore creating works appropriate for appetizers, dinner, desserts etc. Including plates of various sizes, bowls, serving platters mugs and more. There will be discussion, demonstrations and hands-on experiences.

This is an intermediate workshop for both wheel potters and handbuilders.

at Sedona Arts Center
The health and safety of our Patrons, Students, Volunteers, and Staff are a top priority. Since COVID-19 first surfaced, our staff has been monitoring the situation closely and taking every precaution to keep our Patrons, Students, Volunteers, Staff, and our communities safe.

  • We require that face masks, covering mouth and nose, be worn in our classrooms and galleries until further notice. (Note: face shields are not adequate)
  • Enrollment in in-person classes and workshops is limited to ensure social distancing is possible.
  • If the student is traveling to Arizona from out-of-state, a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, or quarantining for ten days prior to attending is required.
  • Thermometers are available in the Gallery and Studios for self-checking of temperature upon entrance.
  • Sanitation stations are available at each entrance to the Center. Paper masks are available for no charge.

Sedona Arts Center administrative offices are closed to the public. Staff are available by phone or Zoom.

Scholarships Available

Scholarship awards will pay 50% towards any Class or Workshop tuition. Scholarships are not available for international Field Expeditions or Painting in the Grand Canyon. The Sedona Arts Center awards scholarships to students only when funds are available.
