Coconino County, the City of Flagstaff and Mountain Line Team Up for Stuff the Virtual Bus
This year’s annual Stuff the Bus community food drive benefitting The Flagstaff Family Food Center will be held virtually November 16 – November 22 continuing the longstanding partnership between Coconino County, the City of Flagstaff and Mountain Line.
The need for donations is greater than ever due to COVID-19. The Flagstaff Family Food Center estimates that since the beginning of the pandemic, the demand for its hunger relief programs have increased by 80%. The Center feeds 2,000 people a day, 365 days a year.
Most years, community members can contribute food to either the County or City tally, and the two compete. This year, Coconino County and the City of Flagstaff are coming together with Mountain Line to collaborate instead of competing.
The community can ‘shop’ at the campaign website for various food items that The Flagstaff Family Food Center will need to serve the community this holiday season. The campaign will be promoted on social media channels with videos from City and County leadership, and those who donate will be entered to win various raffle prizes including 30-day bus passes, $25 dining gift cards, passes to the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course and more.

Safety Tips for Staying Safe in Winter Weather
  • Plan ahead. Leave plenty of time to reach your destination safety. Stay attentive, reduce speed, and leave plenty of room between vehicles.
  • The biggest cause of slips and falls when exiting a vehicle is human error and failure to follow the “Three Point Rule”. The Three Point Rule requires three of four points of contact to be maintained with the vehicle at all times – two hands and one foot, or both feet and one hand.
  • Be prepared by wearing appropriate clothing, footwear, and stocking supplies in vehicles. This includes kitty litter, shovel, and tire chains. Always have drinking water with you to keep hydrated. Consider packing blankets, and spare winter clothes.
  • Remove snow/ice from vehicle roofs prior to heading onto the road. Remove any snow from the vehicle’s rooftop, windows, lights, brake lights, and signals. Make sure you can see and be seen!
  • Walk like a penguin. Bend your knees and take short steps or shuffle for stability. Keep hands out of pockets and briefcase/bags to side.
  • Walk in designated pathways and on sidewalks. Avoid walking on areas that have not been cleared of snow or ice.
  • If you need to use your cell phone, be stopped and stationary. Do not use cell phone while walking on snow or ice.
  • Snow removal operations happen continuously when snow is falling and following a storm. Please be aware of snow plows and equipment when driving and walking in County parking lots and sidewalks.
  • Black ice forms readily when freeze and thaw conditions exist. Cinders are spread on a regular basis, be cautious when driving and walking.
  • Cinder barrels are located at most building locations and are to be used by anyone finding icy conditions.
  • Be prepared should you need to clear snow and ice that has accumulated on vehicle. Take time to ensure vehicle and area around vehicle are clear and safe.
  • It is recommended to have a shovel in your vehicle to clear snow that may accumulate around your vehicle throughout the day.
  • Be cautious around parking lot solar arrays for possible snow/ice slides from panels.
