Education with Purpose!
A quick word from the President
We take the word “community” seriously. It’s a part of our name, and being involved in communities across Coconino County is integral to our philosophy as a college.
That’s why those of us at the college were so excited when nearly 60 people and agencies from all over the county took the time to expertly craft and submit floats to the virtual Coconino County Community Shoebox Parade hosted by CCC. For a list of the winning floats and to get a look at the parade, see the story below.
As this pandemic unfolds around us, many people shared with me that they found it comforting to enjoy the creativity and the passion displayed in the shoebox parade, and my hope is that others did as well.
Here at CCC, we work hard to provide a quality education to everybody who comes to us looking for help to reinvent their lives through education – whether it be to learn a new skill, embark on a different career, or to begin the educational journey on the way to a four-year university. CCC’s dedicated faculty, passionate experts in their fields, are working hard to make the experience deeply satisfying and fruitful.
In the related story below, you will see that we are planning to deliver an affordable education with a minimum of disruption this fall – no matter what the future may bring. So, while the pandemic may have us all feeling uncertain right now, I’d like to assure everybody who is seeking help in reimagining or re-envisioning their lives that CCC is here for you.
CCC is a great place to be. Onward! Náás! Adelante!

CCC offers Remote Delivery courses this fall
Health, safety, minimal disruption reasons for difficult decision
In the interest of the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and the wider community, Coconino Community College has made the difficult decision to limit in-person contact for the fall semester.
We are excited to provide options designed to give a quality learning experience. The College will offer Remote Delivery courses, with only a few exceptions for in-person interaction. Students will have a choice among Videoconferencing (Zoom only), Online and Hybrid (Canvas/Zoom, plus in-person labs). The good news is that every method of delivery will include regular and meaningful interaction with faculty, but it will be through different means.
All three CCC sites will remain open for business purposes and for students to use the computer labs, participate in the loaner laptop program and have access to Wi-Fi if they have no other way to access their education.
Although we heard many students want to be back with us in person, we have to keep the health and safety of everybody a priority. At CCC, our dedicated faculty members thrive on face-to-face interactions with their students. This decision pains our faculty deeply, but they understand that it is necessary at this uncertain time.
Additionally, because the future is so uncertain, going to Remote Delivery will keep disruption of classes to a minimum for students and faculty. We need to make certain students have a positive, uninterrupted educational experience.
This decision was made after exhaustive consultation with colleagues collegewide and with input from the Coconino County Department of Health and Human Services. Please keep in mind that this is a very complex issue, and we are trying to meet the needs of many people who have a stake in the decision – students who learn best in real time, students who lack access to technology, students and employees who need to be kept safe and the community we ultimately serve.
The College must do what it can to safeguard the health and safety of everybody. There is no doubt that enrollments will be affected. That cannot be our primary concern, and, despite some difficult choices in our future, we must consider the primary concern of health and safety. Please understand that during this difficult time, we must all work together to help our students, one another, our families and friends and our communities.
It won’t be forever. We’ll be here to welcome students back into the classroom when it’s safe.
Students who have already registered for in-person classes will be contacted to discuss their options, and students may also contact their advisors to learn more. Also, CCC has put several support services in place through the Student Affairs department to help students be successful in their Remote Delivery educational experience.

CCC begins new Cybersecurity program this fall
Protecting against and fighting cybercrime offered as new career
Cyberstalking. Denial-of-service attacks. Fraud. Malware. Industrial Espionage.
Every day, the news is filled with reports of computer hackers finding their way into databases to steal sensitive information.
Companies – and people – now more than ever, need skilled, well-trained Information Technology Services staff to keep personal, sensitive data safe from cybercriminals. It’s a rapidly growing field. At Coconino Community College, the new Cybersecurity program is scheduled to begin this fall.
Jeff Jones, Computer Information Systems faculty at CCC who heads the new program, said cybersecurity, at its core, is “protecting and securing electronic data and systems against unauthorized use and criminal activity.”

CCC Summer Learning grows
“We are thrilled by the turnout for our summer learning series,” said Meghan Remington, CCC’s Community Education Coordinator. “In spite of the challenges presented by COVID, we were able to provide virtual summer learning lectures and conversations to twice as many people as 2019.”
The free series, in second year, covers wide array of topics
The CCC Summer Learning Series, which took place June 22-26, attracted more than 250 participants – about double last year’s participation.
The series included topics such as: Cultural Astronomy of the Southwest, Treasures from the Earth, and the Canyon del Muerto Rock Art Documentation project.
Participants hailed from throughout Coconino County, Arizona and even as far away as Maryland and Florida.
Up next, CCC Community Education is exploring Fall programming with a heavy focus on taking community learning opportunities “virtual.” Visit our webpage to stay updated on new course offerings and learn more about instructor opportunities.
