Sinagua Middle School Parent Teacher Organization update — Special Update from Principal Popham

Mustang Roundup – April 20, 2020
Special Update from Principal Popham
Dear SMS Families;
  I hope this finds you all safe and healthy. I am compassionate to the fact that this entire pandemic is hitting us all differently and I want you to know we are here to help as much as we can. Our teachers are working really hard to provide quality, rigorous, standards-based learning opportunities for you children. Most importantly, we want your kids to keep learning, but we understand everyone’s situations for learning are different. If you need additional help, instruction, feedback, or just want to touch base with your teacher, please do so. Email them and request to meet–we have been allowed to do individual one-on-one google meets with students to provide instructional support. The last two weeks our goals was to develop these lessons so that this week and in the coming weeks we can spend time giving feedback to students who request that, updating grades for those who will be increasing their grades, and continuing to monitor the google classroom and digital hubs. Teachers are also expected to be participating in meetings, professional development and committee’s so their schedules are getting full as well.
   Yesterday, Wednesday, April 16th, we were able to put a car caravan together of about 50 cars and did what we called a “HONK FOR HENSLEY”. It was awesome and he misses everyone very much but he is well… a lot of people have been asking so I thought I would share that.
   Administration is now focusing on a plan for “check out”. How do we clear lockers, return books and IPADS, get yearbooks, etc. Please be patient and I will communicate these processes as we get them organized as a district.
   Again, I hope you are all staying safe, washing hands, getting outside a bit to exercise (at a social distance of course) and spending some quality family time.
Thanks
 Tari Popham

Internet & Technology Access Solutions
If you or someone you know is having difficult accessing the internet to get content for students, we want you to know that Sinagua Middle School and FUSD are working hard on solutions to solve these issues.
One solution already available is to drive to any FUSD school, park close to the building, and join the Wi-Fi network from the school. From there you can download the content and return home where it can be worked on offline.
Please know we are working toward many other solutions for the variety of obstacles we know parents and caregivers are facing in providing internet and technology access to students!
Thanks again to everyone for supporting Sinagua and helping make our school a better place!
If you have any more questions feel free to reply to this email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
