NAU Students Step Up for Youth
Northern Arizona University (NAU) is hosting the next generation of volunteers and philanthropists who are stepping up for our youththrough their work with the United Way.
The NAU student chapter of United Way has about a dozen core members who are organizing or working at a variety of events throughout the year.
“Our goal is just to have NAU students give back to the community,” said Grace Davis, a junior who serves as the organization’s president.
Since their founding two years ago, you’ll see members helping out at events that raise money for the United Way of Northern Arizona, like the recent holiday tree lighting at Little America and the Mountain Craft Holiday Fair at NAU.
“Those are always fun,” said Davis, “especially the Holiday of Lights at Little America because you get to see everyone getting into the holiday spirit.”
The group also has teamed up with Kinsey Elementary School, where they will hold a movie night next month for families. In March, members will participate in a special event to mark Dr. Seuss Day by reading age-appropriate books to the children, including Seuss classics and excerpts from the Harry Potter series.
The student chapter of the United Way also does background work for one of UWNA’s signature programs, KinderCamp™, by assembling the “literacy kits” given to each child participating in the summer program. Additionally, they hold fundraising campaigns to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, another UWNA program that provides free monthly books for children from birth to age 5 to foster a culture of literacy.
The student chapter for United Way welcomes and encourages NAU students to become members of the club and participate in its rewarding activities.
Thanks so much to the United Way Student Chapter at NAU for demonstrating every day what we can accomplish when we Live United.
