United States Congressman Tom O'Halleran, Representing the first District of Arizona

Dear Friend,

August was a busy month for Team O’Halleran as I crisscrossed the district and met with Arizonans in every corner of the state to hear about the issues our communities are facing. I wanted to provide you with an update on my time in the district, and the work I’m doing for Arizona families.

During the August work period myself and my team:

  • Held 4 Town Halls, 1 of which was also a hands-on workshop on the federal budget;
  • Hosted 4 Open Office Hours;
  • Put together 2 round tables to hear from Native American women on sexual assault and domestic violence, and access to quality care at the VA;

O’Halleran hosts a round table with Native American women veterans in northern Arizona to discuss VA issues

  • Organized 14 Mobile Office Hours to bring constituent services to rural Arizonans;
  • Met with over 45 different Arizona organizations, advocacy groups, and businesses, such as the Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits Factory that supplies good paying jobs in the Page area;

O’Halleran tours the Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits Factory in Page, AZ and discusses job creation in the area

  • Drove 1200 + miles for official business;
  • Visited 21 different towns, cities, and communities;
  • Attended a naturalization ceremony that saw 250 people hailing from 53 different nations become U.S. Citizens;
  • Visited Glen Canyon Dam and heard from the National Park Service on conservation efforts and promotion of ecotourism in the Page area;

O’Halleran chats with NPS Superintendent William Shott about conservation efforts and ecotourism in the area

  • Hired a new dedicated veterans services representative to serve former servicemembers across Arizona, and assist in resolving issues and disputes with the VA and other agencies;
  • Was honored to present a posthumously awarded Purple Heart and Bronze Star to the family of World War II veteran Private Starlie Lomayaktewa. My district staff worked tirelessly to secure this much-deserved award for Private Lomayaktewa’s loved ones.

O’Halleran presents WWII Private Lomayaktewa’s next of kin with his Purple Heart

I enjoyed getting to travel the district and hear directly from hardworking Arizonans on the ground about the issues our state is facing. I’m looking forward to bringing those issues to the attention of Congress this fall.

It is an honor to represent you in Congress. My door is always open, and I urge you to call or write to share your thoughts and concerns with me.

Sincerely,

Tom O’Halleran

Member of Congress
