Sedona Arts Center — Art workshops coming up

Each morning Tiffani will lead us in a one-hour meditation that combines movement, stillness, and awareness. Relaxing deeply and resting in a spacious presence that is naturally joyful, we become more available to being “present, available, playful and not-knowing”, our methodless-method of Zen creativity. Throughout the workshop she will guide us through exercises or dance to evolve our art of being embodied.

Then Alok will serve everyone very good tea from his home province in China. The subtle delight and alertness of drinking tea together softly strengthens our collective energy field that holds us aware and safe and prepares us for the adventure of painting by “resting in presence and moving from emptiness.”

Lyn will offer a roadmap that will continue to guide your creative journey long after the workshop is over. To bring more clarity to your work. To learn to paint with intent. To continue the journey from ‘painting’ to becoming a ‘painter’. And most importantly – how to develop the mindset of ‘practice’ that leads to successful ‘performance.’ Bring your questions, your curiosity and some thoughts about what you’ve been most wanting to improve!

This unique workshop will focus on learning to see and interpret Sedona’s spectacular scenery and unique natural history.  James largely paints in his own style, influenced by his love and understanding of nature, and most closely identifies with the romantics and impressionists.  Learn about natural history, light, physics of atmosphere, geology, and human physiology of vision and aesthetics as they all relate to creating paintings which not only convey a visual representation of the uniquely beautiful Sedona landscape, but also convey the emotional impact of a first hand experience of painting on location.

At the conclusion of this workshop you will have the skills to create impressionistic, painterly collages from initial sketch to complete and ready to hang finished artwork!

This class is focused on learning and growing creatively in a FUN environment.  No prior collage experience is necessary.  All levels are welcome.

During her workshop Betty begins each day with a demonstration/ lecture covering tools, techniques, brushwork, problems and solutions. Emphasis throughout the workshop is on organization and simplification of darks and lights, value and color relationships, edges, movement and mass to create a dynamic, coherent composition.

This will be an enjoyable and intense 2-day workshop involving painting on-site in the Sedona landscape.  We will learn the advantages of plein air painting, as well as the various approaches to working on-site and how to efficiently compose and complete plein air paintings.  Emphasis will be placed on how to effectively translate the often complex three dimensional landscape onto a two dimensional plane using thumbnail sketches, limited palettes and the thoughtful use of colors, values, shapes, edges and textures.

This unique workshop includes all materials allowing students to explore a new medium without investing in a studio of supplies! You only need to bring images that you would like to work from!

Using ‘little’ works as small studies, we will turn our focus to a more intentional placement of elements, coming from that place of freedom and trusting what our eye and intuition knows is good, while learning tips, tricks, and techniques from a professional point of view, to translate what we see into a series of completed works on paper incrementally increasing the scale as we go.

Students will leave the workshop with a series of small 4″ studies and multiple big works of art ranging from 6″ up to 30″ in size. All works will be created on watercolor paper as our substrate, discussion will include a variety of ways to display your completed collage work when you return home.

Scholarship awards will pay 50% towards any Class or Workshop tuition. Scholarships are not available for international Field Expeditions or Painting in the Grand Canyon. The Sedona Arts Center awards scholarships to students only when funds are available.
