Wednesday July 17, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. His appearance is expected to begin at 7am Arizona time, but at this writing no firm start time has been established. When it begins, NPR will provide live coverage of his testimony in its entirety, which will be heard on the stations of KNAU News-Talk frequencies as well as streaming audio and video at KNAU.org.
Earth Notes: Spiderling Traps
Northern Arizona University biologist Jason Wilder made a grisly discovery recently: a plant that ensnares and kills birds. Wilder was hiking in a remote dry wash in the volcanic field east of Flagstaff last summer, when he caught the killer red-handed. Learn more at KNAU.org.

Senate Bill Would Boost Resources for Missing, Murdered Indigenous Persons Cases
Native communities experience very high rates of missing and murdered people, especially women and girls. In 2016, only about 2% of the more than 5,700 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls were logged with the U.S. Justice Department. Learn more at KNAU.org.
Report: Coconino County is Most Expensive County for Renters in Arizona
Coconino County is the least affordable county in Arizona for renters. That’s according to an annual report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition. In Flagstaff–the county’s main population base—there are about 29,000 homes, but only about 2,100 are set aside for low-income housing. Learn more at KNAU.org.
Some Mogollon Rim Campground Fees Could Increase Under Proposal
The U.S. Forest Service has proposed to more than double the fees at some campgrounds along the Mogollon Rim. The public has until October 15th to weigh in on the proposal announced this week. Learn more at KNAU.org.
