FLAGSTAFF —The Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board approved a new contract Superintendent Michael Penca’s contract through the 2020 -2021 school year with extension language for a potential third additional year at the April 9, 2019 public meeting. Citing a review of specified goals focused on academic achievement, legal and fiduciary compliance, and organizational culture focused on shared access and equity, the FUSD Governing Board offered the contract extension noting the accomplishments and collaborative relationship between the governing board and Mr. Penca.
“The Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board and Superintendent Penca are proud of the work and accomplishments that we have achieved together,” shared Governing Board President Carol Haden. “The results include the creation and adoption of a strategic plan focused on enhancing student achievement through collaborative measurement and accountability with the support of internal stakeholders and community partners.”
The FUSD Governing Board values the collaboration Superintendent Penca has instituted during his time with the district including the high vote of confidence from the community with the recent passage of the bond and override. Both parties look forward to expanding the support for public education in Northern Arizona with Penca’s unique skills that foster teamwork, the strategic and efficient use of resources, and innovative practices.
