Connections Spotlight

 

Charlie Duke, the 10thand youngest person to ever walk on the moon, will be the W.L Gore & Associates keynote speaker at the opening of the 10-day Flagstaff Festival of Science.

Duke, who served as the Apollo 16 lunar module pilot in 1972, trained in Flagstaff with other Apollo astronauts, maneuvering a lunar rover prototype over rough volcanic terrain and in and out of a simulated crater field north of the city.

— CCC&Y, which will once again present its STEAM-themed Early Childhood Fair during the science festival and will take an active part in the festival planning this year with the addition of Executive Director Virginia Watahomigie as a festival board member.

FALA, Thomas Elementary teachers take top educator honors at 2019 Viola Awards

Rich Krueger of the Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy (FALA) received the Excellence of Science Award during the 2019 Viola Awards, presented March 2 at the High Country Conference Center. Kathy Marron of Thomas Elementary School in Flagstaff received the Excellence in Arts Education Award.

More than 600 patrons attended the event, presented by the Flagstaff Arts Council.

In recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, CCC&Y will present the 2019 Annual Child Abuse Prevention Conference and Luncheon — “Healing Collective Trauma through Community Connections,” at Little America Hotel, Flagstaff on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
