FLAGSTAFF — The city of Flagstaff’s designation as a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BCF) was recently renewed by the League of American Bicyclists. Flagstaff was recognized along with 61 towns and cities in 27 states for their leadership and investment in infrastructure, education and outreach that enables and inspires people to ride bikes.
Flagstaff was first designated a BCF in 2006 at the Bronze level and earned the Silver leveldistinction in 2010 which was renewed in 2014 and again in 2018. “Designation as a bicycle-friendly community is an acknowledgement of Flagstaff’s commitment to bicycling and multi-modal transportation. However, our renewal at the Silver level indicates that we still have work to do to get to the Gold level. Flagstaff has the ability to be a Gold level community” said Martin Ince, multi modal planner for the city of Flagstaff.
With this round of awards by the League of American Bicyclists, Flagstaff joins a leading group of 464 communities across the United States that are transforming the American landscape. “We applaud these communities for making bicycling a safe and convenient option for transportation and recreation,” said Bill Nesper, Executive Director at the League of American Bicyclists.
This silver award recognizes Flagstaff’s commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies. The League of American Bicyclists will provide the city with feedback in the coming months on steps that are necessary to move to a Gold level designation.
