Veterans Day Appreciation
Veteran’s Day is a chance for the nation to show its appreciation to those who have defended its liberties. As we near Veterans Day, we would like to thank those who have served or currently serving our nation to protect our freedoms. Blessings to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice along with their families. We are thankful for your braveness and willingness to serve.
Coconino County offices will be closed in observance of Veterans day on Monday, November 12, 2018.
Catholic Charities will host a Military Appreciation event on Friday, November 17, 2018 from 10 am. to 2 pm. All proceeds from the sales at Full Circle Thrift will be donated to the Catholic Veteran Services.

Girls on the Run 5K and 10th Anniversary Party
Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona, the local Council of the national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping girls in third to eighth grades establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness, will celebrate ten years of serving five Northern Arizona counties with a special event on Saturday, November 10, 2018 in Flagstaff. Girls from all five counties will participate in a 5K course around Ft. Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff, and after the race, Girls on the Run will host a 10-year anniversary party.
The 5k and 10-year anniversary party kicks off on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 8 am and is open to the public. Individual runners or running teams can register for the 5K course, a total of 3.1-miles around Ft. Tuthill, starting at 8 am. The 5K begins at 10 am, with cheer teams and water stations placed throughout the course to cheer on the girls and Running Buddies. Once the 5K is over, the anniversary party begins.

November Adult Workshop: Primitive Fire Making 
Discover the thrill of making fire-by-friction in this hands-on class taught by survival expert Tony Nester, Saturday, November 10th, 11am-3pm. Workshop will cover bow-drill, hand-drill, and flint & steel methods. Participants will walk away with their own handmade fire kits that they carve themselves. Youth are welcomed ages 14 & up.
Cost: $25/participant or $20 for Willow Bend members. Limited spots. Sign-up required.
Family Science: Birds of Arizona

Stuff the Bus Friendly Competition
Come to the Plaza University Safeway on Saturday Nov. 17 to help stuff the bus and help the County win! All donations will fill a Mountain Line bus, and the group that collects the most turkeys will be declared the winner of the friendly competition between the City and the County. All you have to do is donate a turkey, or $15 in the County’s name. Let’s team up to beat the City!

UWNA invites you to join them as they kick off the holiday season with two events next week that will light up your night and give you a head start on your holiday shopping.
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, spark your holiday spirit by joining UWNA for the Little America Holiday of Lights. In addition to the dramatic lighting ceremony, when hundreds of trees are illuminated by more than a million lights, this special evening will include a kiddie caboose train rides, balloons twisted into unique shapes, face painting, caroling, and a raffle to benefit UWNA.
The festivities are from 4 to 7:30 pm at 2515 E. Butler Ave. And don’t worry about parking – there’s a free shuttle courtesy of Northern Arizona University from nearby Foxglenn Park.
That weekend, get a head start on your holiday shopping with a visit to the Annual Mountain Campus Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair. Find some truly unique gifts for friends and loved ones while you support local artists and enjoy beautiful holiday music. There’s even a visit from Santa on Saturday!
The fair is from 9 am to 5 pm on November 17, and 10 am to 3 pm on November 18 in the DuBois Ballroom on the Northern Arizona University campus. The $2 fee for adults and $1 fee for students goes towards the United Way of Northern Arizona’s annual campaign. Kids 12 and under can get in for free.

Announcement for Board Meeting
The Board of Supervisors will be meeting for a special session on Tuesday, November 20, at 1 p.m. to approve the canvasing of the November 6th election. The meeting will be held at 219 E. Cherry Ave

Lucinda Andreani Appointed
Deputy County Manager
Coconino County Manager Jimmy Jayne appointed, and the Board of Supervisors confirmed, Lucinda Andreani as Deputy County Manager. Andreani, who has served as Interim County Manager since January 2018, will also remain Director of Public Works, a position she has held since January 2017.
As Deputy County Manager, Andreani will oversee several County departments as well serving as a leader of the County’s organizational renewal process, diversity and inclusion and transformational leadership efforts. The organizational renewal efforts are aimed to attract and retain team members who excel at serving the County’s constituents. She will also continue to manage the Flood Control District and the County’s Forest Restoration Initiative.
