FLAGSTAFF — Starting college for the first time, or returning to college after a long break can be a daunting prospect for students.
Coconino Community College helps to relieve some of that anxiety by getting students familiar with the resources available to them to help them be successful in their educational goals. On Wednesday, Aug. 29, CCC held a Resource Fair at the Lone Tree Campus.
Jared King, Business Marketing student, took advantage of the booths and information available.
“CCC was the best option for me,” King said. “I lived in Phoenix before I moved here, and with the CCC2NAU program, I could live on campus. So, I lived in the dorms my Freshman year and still got the college experience while attending the community college.”
Some booths represented at the Resource Fair included CCC2NAU, Northern Arizona University Native American Student Services, Disability Resources, and Grand Canyon University among others.
King has been a student at CCC for three semesters and plans to graduate with an associate degree in December. He added that he hopes to move forward with school at NAU.
Derik Yellowhair, CCC Student Life Coordinator, said the event is a good way for students to get connected with services they need as well as get them familiar with what is available the larger Flagstaff community.
“A lot of the tabling that’s here is from universities, and from community services to CCC programs,” Yellowhair said. “And It’s a good way for students to get that information and just be in one place at one time.”
CCC holds a Resource Fair at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. For more information about CCC, visit www.coconino.edu.
