FLAGSTAFF — Arizona Governor Ducey recognized Flagstaff as a leading Craft Beer City with a Commendation presented by the Flagstaff City Council on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. The Flagstaff Mayor and City Council also declared the month of February “Craft Beer Month” in the City of Flagstaff.
Flagstaff is home to eight craft breweries supporting key economic development sectors with a commitment to their craft, providing world-class brews both locally and throughout the world. The Flagstaff- Grand Canyon region is the Craft Beer Hub of the Southwest with award-winning ales receiving recognition and honors from the World Beer Championships and Great American Beer Festival.
February 8-18, 2018 marks the annual celebration of Arizona Beer Week with more than 200 events emphasizing craft beer education, brewing techniques and food pairings with the perfect suds. The eight Flagstaff Breweries known as Craft Beer FLG created a limited edition collaboration specialty brew available only during Arizona Beer Week. This Craft Beer FLG collaboration is a Baltic Porter with a chocolate and roast malt flavor and aroma that is low in hop flavor and aroma. This style of beer differs from other porters because it has softer, sweeter and more caramel flavors due to the yeast used and the fermented temperature. The cold brew adds a dose of coffee flavor which compliments the chocolaty/roast of the malts without the added astringency of the coffee bean.Flagstaff coffee roasters provided light to medium coffee beans to Craft Beer FLG for the exclusive and limited edition brew. The limited edition brew demonstrates a community collaboration leveraging another favorited beverage trend. Brewing at an elevation of 7,000’ requires boiling at a lower temperature due. Extending the boil ensures the caramelization of the sugars necessary for the brew.
