FLAGSTAFF — Flagstaff’s City Council adopted Resolution 2017-34 at their meeting on Sept. 19 in support of an extension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and called for Congress to permanently address the legal status of these DREAMers.
“It is very important that Congress act on the DACA issue,” said Councilmember Charlie Odegaard. “We call upon them to permanently address the legal status of these Dreamers within the next six months.”
The Mayor and City Council members recognized that there are an estimated 30,000 DACA recipients across Arizona and that ending this program would have a negative economic impact of approximately $1.3 billion in the state over the next decade.
“There is so much at stake for these DREAMers and our country needs comprehensive immigration reform with a clearly defined path to citizenship” said Mayor Evans.
