FLAGSTAFF — With 57 fatal crashes in the Flagstaff Metropolitan area in the past five years, the Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Organization (FMPO) strategic transportation safety campaign seeks input from community members.
FMPO and its design team, Burgess & Niple, Inc., are analyzing crash data to determine the primary causes and identify potential projects and educational efforts which could reduce the number of crashes. Input from drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians is vital to this effort.
“We want the community to share their observations and experiences from the road and tell us about their areas of concern,” said David Wessel, FMPO Manager. “This information is valuable because it alerts us to potential dangers and provides input to enhance safety and reduce the number of fatal and serious crashes.”
Citizens can access an online survey at, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FMPO. The information gathered will help identify unsafe driving behaviors and locations where there are concerns about safety. This survey includes an opportunity to place virtual pinpoints on a map to identify worrisome areas and leave comments for the team.
For those who prefer to communicate directly, the team can be reached via email at FMPOsafetyplan@gciaz.com or by mailing comments to GCI, 67 E. Weldon, Suite 103, Phoenix, AZ 85012.
The safety plan and survey process are part of cooperative effort between the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG), FMPO and the Central Yavapai MPO designed to understand current conditions, identify strategies to reduce the number of crashes, and implement solutions for safer travel in Northern Arizona.
