Greetings!
This month, the Arts Council will open
Hope and Trauma in a Poisoned Land, a new exhibition that explores the impact of uranium mining on Navajo lands and people through the eyes of artists. The exhibition has been years in the making. Like with the
Fires of Changeexhibition, participating artists in
Hope and Trauma attended a week-long training program to learn about this complex issue so they could create art from an informed place.
I want to thank the committee who made this exhibition possible, our partners at Northern Arizona University, University of New Mexico, North Country Healthcare, and the Navajo Nation, and the many artists who have created new work.
Please plan to attend the exhibition and some of its series of
events which are now posted on our website. It promises to be eye-opening and powerful.
Cheers,
John Tannous
Executive Director
