The Coconino County Public Health Services District (CCPHSD) will observe National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), an annual observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases during the week of April 22-29.
During NIIW, administrative fees will be waived for vaccines that are mandated for daycare, preschool and school entry. As a courtesy, the CCPHSD will bill the insurance company. For people without insurance, several assistance programs are available and people won’t be denied service due to an inability to pay.
Thousands of children become ill each year from diseases that could have been prevented by basic childhood immunizations. Other children miss time from daycare and school because they are under-immunized.
“Children’s vaccinations are very important to keeping children healthy and protecting them from preventable diseases,” said Marie Peoples, CCPHSD Chief Health Officer. “Through immunization, infants and children can be protected from 14 vaccine-preventable diseases before age two. Vaccinations also help protect entire communities by preventing and reducing the spread of infectious diseases.”
Immunizations are important throughout an individual’s lifetime to help prevent illness. Both children and adults are encouraged to bring their immunization records for review by CCPHSD Clinic staff to determine the vaccinations needed.
