FLAGSTAFF — The International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day, is observe annually on September 21st. The General Assembly of the United Nations designated the day to strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.
The Flagstaff Peace Day Celebration committee will sponsor an International Day of Peace Celebration in Flagstaff on Wednesday evening September 21st, 2016. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. in front of the Peace Pole near the Student Union building on the NAU campus.
The group will walk to Heritage Square in Downtown Flagstaff, where they will meet others around 4:40 p.m. The group will convene for about 30 minutes before walking over to City Hall, where the group will display their support for Peace Day along Route 66 followed by multiple presentations and exercises.
Schedule:
- 4:00 – Assemble Outside Union on North Campus at the Peace Pole with your flag.
- 4:20 – Begin Walk to Heritage Square from Campus.
- 4:50 – Presentation/Discussion at Heritage Square.
- 5:15 – Walk to City Hall from Heritage Square
- 5:25 – Peace presentation on lawn
- 5:40 – Welcome
- 5:50 – Flag Ceremony
- 6:00 – Moment of Silence
- 6:05 – A Prayer for Peace
- 6:10 – Presentations
- 6:20 – International Peace Day Proclamation – Jerry Nabours, Mayor of Flagstaff
- 6:30 – Songs for Peace
